Run an inTurn  Competition

inTurn

The inTurn Young Entrepreneur Competition offers a unique and exciting opportunity for students to develop their business skills in a real-world context. By hosting the competition at your school or community centre, you can provide your students with the chance to engage in hands-on learning, gain insights from industry professionals, and apply their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit to develop a product and run a business.

We understand that schools are looking for enriching experiences that are both educational and engaging for students. The inTurn competition is designed to do just that: teach entrepreneurial skills, foster teamwork, and inspire students to think critically about business. As a school organizer, you will have full support from inTurn, including all the materials needed to run the competition smoothly, and access to business leaders who will share their expertise and insights with your students.

What We Provide

Running the inTurn competition at your school means your students will benefit from a comprehensive program designed to nurture their entrepreneurial potential. To make this process as easy as possible for you, we provide all the resources you’ll need. Our Teacher’s Guide walks you through every step of the process, from registration to the final event. You’ll also have access to a Student Workbook, which helps guide students through the competition, outlining their tasks, deadlines, and what they need to focus on at each stage.

To further support your students, we will arrange for successful business leaders to visit your school and speak with the students about entrepreneurship. These speakers will provide real-world insight into the challenges and successes of running a business, giving students valuable advice and inspiration. If you think your students would benefit from an introductory pitch about the competition, we can also send an inTurn representative to your school to explain the competition, answer questions, and help spark excitement about the event.

How the Competition Works

Once your school expresses interest in hosting the competition, we’ll arrange an initial consultation to discuss the logistics and schedule. We will tailor the timeline to suit your school’s calendar, ensuring the key activities fit seamlessly into your academic schedule. These activities include the Information Session, where students will learn about the competition and hear from business leaders, and the Business Training Workshops, where students will get practical advice on how to build their business ideas, market their products, and manage their budgets.

As students work through the competition, they will have the opportunity to develop a showbag—a carefully curated collection of products that they will sell at the final event. Along the way, they’ll receive guidance and support, including feedback from mentors and opportunities to refine their ideas and strategies. By the time of the final event, students will have honed valuable skills, such as budgeting, sales strategies, and marketing, as well as gained confidence in their ability to manage a business.

The culmination of the competition is the Gillingham & Shaftesbury Show, where students will have the chance to showcase and sell their showbags. The student who generates the highest profit from their sales will be crowned the winner, giving them the satisfaction of seeing their hard work pay off.

The Benefits for Your School

Hosting the inTurn competition at your school provides several benefits for both your students and your school community. First and foremost, the competition offers an engaging and practical way for students to learn essential business skills, which are increasingly valuable in today’s economy. They’ll gain experience in critical areas such as budgeting, marketing, product development, and sales, all while being encouraged to think creatively.

In addition to the business skills learned, students will develop important soft skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership. These are the kinds of abilities that employers value highly, and that will serve your students well in any future career, not just in business.

The competition also allows your school to showcase its commitment to fostering entrepreneurial thinking and preparing students for the future. By hosting inTurn, your school can become a hub for innovation and inspire students to explore new ideas and career possibilities. You’ll also be able to celebrate the achievements of students who excel, providing them with the recognition and encouragement they deserve.
